Thunderstorms bring much needed water and spectacular sunsets

Lower water levels result in larger properties - don't tell MPAC

Access to Old Growth forest trail on Temagami Island has been improved somewhat

Bear Island

Bear Island

Looking north from Bear Island

South Arm

The Dam at Cross Lake - why is it open is a good question.

March 20 views from TLA dock

Looking towards Loon Lodge

Ice conditions continue to deteriorate on March 18 - even on the ice road

vehicles are going down

This is on the Bear Island ice road.

Putting board below helps to spread weight

Chains and block and tackle tied to a post set into the ice

Pulling the truck up onto board to prevent having weight on only four tires

Once up move it  forward distributing the weight

Tug the front end onto a sled and it can be taken off the lake under its own power assisted by snow machine

The day before this truck went through a hundred metres from the landing

It is resting on bottom.  Salvage will hopefully occur using compressed air and inflatables.

Air bags are used to both stabilize and raise truck

Once raised it is pulled through open water towards this frame, tied off, and towed off the ice

Within moments of the overtime goal in the Olympic gold medal hockey game between

Canada and USA the Toronto skyline has a 'golden' CN Tower.

In mid March, warm weather and  low water levels combine to cause what may be an early

break up - shoals warm up during the day and melt around themselves.

A break in by an owl in flight.  Note the reflection off the glass in the lower partition.  The top window

was shattered inwards and the owl was found inside frozen and perfectly preserved.

Beaver damage - note the chicken wire really works to protect shoreline birch trees

The road to Bear Island is well used through mid March

Fishermen travel by truck in early March to their favourite spot

.Hauling water in mid. Feb. - drill a hole, insert pump and fill containers

06/01/2010 One must be aware of the danger of pressure cracks that occur as the ice thickens, expands

and plates move together pushing upwards. A recents snowmobile fatality in North Bay has been

attributed to the snowmobiler hitting one of these during bad light conditions.

Beaver damage to property

Strong winds in Dec. and Jan. took down many trees around cottages. June 01, 2010

Jan. 23 and we discover that Gary De La Chevrotiere (Is. 660) created the skating rink

at Narrows Island first seen from the air two days ago

Travelling is good on Jan. 22 - call ahead to be sure about your part of the lake

A skating rink in progress on new black ice - Gary can be seen at work.

Ron Miller finds new ice and pressure cracks north of Sand Point on Jan 21.

Rom Miller flies again on Jan.12  - top north of Seal Rock Point open water awaits a cold night.

Below new ice next to Rabbitnose is checked by Robb Huff and Tom Mathias - 3 inches - not enough to encourage travel yet.

Snowmobile into the lake and back out again off

Bear Island

Jan. 7 - the winds continue preventing total freeze up.

Ron Miller sends a few air photos on Jan. 6 indicating clearly

that travel conditions remain unsafe

Allan Eustis sends this image on Jan. 4.  Strong winds are

keeping the lake open.

Allan Eustis sends along this satellite image from Dec. 30 - west side of lake is ice free (dark blue/black).

Other places probably have lots of snow but little ice thickness.  Lake Nipissing to the south

has good ice - compare the white colour of two lakes to see that Lake Temagami ice is still quite thin.

On Boxing day the temperatures are rising, ice is not so secure and fog lifts

off the lake - Photos by Bob Farr

By Dec. 22 residents are snowmobiling to the landing from the Hub areas.

Gerry Gooderham sends a few freeze up photos

Allan Eustis sends along our first satellite image of the season.  Lake Nipissing is starting

to experience some ice cover however Lake Temagami is still ice free

Ron Miller sends along the next two photos taken from a fly over about Dec 10.
