"Temagami Cooks" Cookbook
COOKBOOK IS A GREAT SUCCESS!
![]()
At the beginning of July
2000, there was a flurry of activity in Temagami with
the arrival of the highly anticipated "Temagami Cooks" cookbook. Volunteers
from the TLA spent the summer months marketing the new 200-page publication which contains favourite recipes from lake and town residents, Anishnabai, and cottagers, as well as herb descriptions, rainy day activities for kids, poems, camp songs and a few wise sayings.
What makes the "Temagami Cooks" unique are the many colour reproductions of the work of local artists and area residents. From oil paintings to wooden carvings... from stain glass to watercolours... these colour additions make the book a visual and informative delight. The project was conceived and nurtured by Robin Campbell, a TLA member and long-time summer resident on Lake Temagami who shares a cottage on island 972 with her husband, Bob, and their family. Robin spent the winter months compiling and editing a host of recipes submitted by people from around the Lake. By spring, Robin had the initial draft completed began seeking out area artists, both professional and hobbyists, to bring a colourful perspective to the project. "The idea was to bring people on the Lake together and share something wholesome and delicious," said Robin. The proceeds from the sale of the book will be used to fund some of the water quality programs sponsored by the TLA. "Protecting the quality of our water is a paramount concern for the TLA and everyone who enjoys Lake Temagami," stated Barry Smith, Past-President of the Temagami Lakes Association. "Through active and tangible projects, such as the Privy Project that places box privies at various campsites around the Lake, we can help lower the impact on our environment and help conserve it for future generations." Such ventures are never realized without the hard work and dedication of volunteers. The TLA would like to extend its appreciation to Robin and Bob Campbell, Lorie and Ginty Jocius, Lori and Bill Hand, Sandy and Barry Smith, Peg and Duff Shardelow, for making this wonderful initiative a reality. Finally, the TLA would like to thank the following Temagami businesses for their generous support in helping to sell the "Temagami Cooks" cookbooks: Boatline Bay Marina Country Dreams Helen Hall / Art Gallery Northland Traders Smoothwater Outfitters Temagami Garden Centre Temagami Life Outfitters Temagami Outfitters Co. Temagami Marine Temagami Train Station Terry&Mac226;s Small Engines
