The TLA Privy Project

During the summer of 2001, a hardy group of TLA volunteers showed up to build over 40 box privies that will be installed at various campsites around Lake Temagami over the next few years. This project, headed by TLA director, Ray Delarosebel, and supported financially by the TLA membership, is designed to clean up some of the campsites around the area and help preserve the quality of the lake water.

Over two weekends last August, sheets of plywood were crafted into box privies by approximately 20 volunteers. The first installations will start in the summer of 2002 on campsites throughout Lake Temagami and Cross Lake.

The TLA would like to thank everyone involved in this very important endeavour and for helping to make the Temagami experience of our visitors a more environmentally sensitive one.

Note: Since the initial project at least another 40 privies have been made and installed on campsites on and around Lake Temagami in partnership with the Municipality of Temagami and Temagami First Nations.

Volunteer TLA members take a break from constructing box privies during the summer of 2001.

Holes are carefully cut for the top of the box privies.

Roy Delarosbel, fondly referred to as the "Prince of the Privy Project" gets suitably framed.

TLA President, Barry Smith (far right), is assisted by Board Member, Bill Hand (centre), and a young apprentice in cutting lumber.

A stock of privies are completed, ready for installation on campsites around Lake Temagami.
