The TLA provides the following services for its members

PROPERTY PATROL
|
|
| For members who request it, at a supplemental cost of $25.00 or $50.00, property is inspected in autumn and spring and twice during the winter. Any evidence of break-in, damage or improper close-up is reported to the proper authorities, to the property owner and/or to a designated permanent resident of the Lake Temagami area who may be designated by the property owner as caretaker. A standing reward of up to $1000.00 is offered for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of anyone breaking into or damaging the property of a member. Signs stating this policy are supplied to all property owning members. | |

| NAME PLATES | |
| Permanent plastic name and island number signs are supplied to all property owning members. These identify the owner's property to any visitors and the property patrolman and identify the owner as a TLA member. | |

| PUBLICATIONS | |
| The TLA publishes the Temagami Times, a tabloid newspaper mailed free-of-charge to all members and available at various locations on the Lake and in the Town of Temagami. The Times carries timely articles on TLA activities, other happenings on the Lake and in the area, and items of historical interest. Each spring the Committee also publishes the TLA Directory. This conveniently sized booklet contains names and addresses of all TLA members listed alphabetically, by Island number, by Lake area and by radio listing. The Directory also contains basic information about the Association, as well as up-to-date information on services available in the Temagami area. | |

| ENVIRONMENT AND LAND USE PLANNING | |
| The TLA actively represents the interests of all members in responding to issues of concern such as acid rain, water quality and land and resource use and planning. | |

| HEADQUARTERS BUILDING SERVICES | |
| The TLA maintains its Headquarters Building at the hub of the Lake on the mainland shoreline between Loon Lodge and the Government Landing. It is accessible by land or water. Members are invited to use the Building as a central meeting place, where telephone and information services are available. TLA radio operators monitor VHF Marine Channel 68 and CB channel 9 daily from late June until Labour Day. Open hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The radio operators have authorization from the Federal Department of Communications to relay messages between radio stations on the Lake and via the telephone lines at the building. The operators also broadcast weather forecasts daily. The phone number of the TLA Building is (705) 237-8927. Besides the office phone, there is a pay telephone downstairs for the convenience of TLA members. Members may send or receive facsimile messages at the Headquarters Building. The number is (705) 237-8916. There is a public privy behind the Headquarters Building. Members who make use of the radio service are requested to contribute a minimum of $45.00 annually towards the support of this costly endeavour. Outgoing mail is pickled up from, and incoming mail is delivered to the Headquarters Building on regular mail days from the beginning of July until early September. Mail can be picked up and dropped off during open hours. Members wishing to receive their mail at the Building should have it addressed to: Group Box 129, Temagami, Ont. P0H 2H0. Arrangements can be made to have newspapers delivered daily to the Building and to have a personal mailbox maintained there. Laundry is picked up and delivered to the Building twice weekly. It may be dropped off in a box or bag, any time during open hours. Payment in the form of a blank cheque is required when the laundry is dropped off. Sample rate sheets are available from the radio operators. A lending library has been set up in the downstairs lobby of the Headquarters Building. It contains books for members to borrow. Donations to the collection are always welcome. Some of the items available at the Headquarters Building are: brochures; fishing regulations; fishing, hiking, boating, camping and general purpose maps; bus and train schedules; copies of TLA publications; reward signs; engraving tools; navigation charts; boat burgees; cook books; radio licensing information; canoe route books and other environmentally sensible merchandise. If you have any complaints, praise or ideas regarding any aspect of TLA activities, there is a suggestion box located in the building, in order that members may air their views. |
